Don Griffis

I started my post secondary education at Simon Fraser University where I obtained a BA in History, a Minor in Kinesiology and a Certificate of Health and Fitness Sciences. During this time I became aware of the profession of Athletic Therapy and decided to pursue this profession. I transferred to Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario and received a Diploma of Applied Arts in Sports Injury Management and became a Certified Athletic Therapist in 2001.

Through that time I had worked with all the Varsity Athletic programs at Simon Fraser University for 13 years, but primarily with the Football, Men's Soccer and Women's Softball teams. From 2001 – 2012, I was a member of the medical staff for the Canadian National Softball Team, covering local, national and international competitions. During the 18 years as a student and Athletic Therapist, I have covered various sports and athletic events on all levels of competition.

In 2007, I started to further my medical professional studies by entering the program of Osteopathic Manual Practices offered by the College d'Etudes Osteopathiques in Montreal. At this time I have competed my osteopathic studies and have successfuly defended my thesis. With this I have obtained the designation of an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.

Through full body postural and biomechanical evaluation, I believe that with the use of manual therapy to evaluate, assess, treat and rehabilitate the dysfunctions that are present in the client's body and by following an active rehabilitation philosophy of prescribed exercises that would incorporate the client's needs and abilities would be effective in facilitating a return to daily living activity for the client.

As an Athletic Therapist, I believe in working in cooperation with all performance enhancement personnel and members of the health care delivery team, to engage in an integral part of a total service to maximize the performance and welfare of the individual. My past clientele encompass all individuals partaking in a healthy active lifestyle and those who are also looking to increase their daily living activity levels.
